Today is Feminist Coming Out Day, I guess. Also International Women's Day and Abortion Provider Appreciation Day.
This is an article about third wave feminism. I agree with pretty much everything, but I want to talk about it.
1. agree
2. agree
3. okay
4. agree, I think feminists are allowed to shave their legs and give blow jobs (I am including sex acts in this point) and all that fun stuff. If I differ from the author's view, it would be because I place less importance on considering your motivations. It's like fetishes: Let's say you have a fetish. Let's say you are into adult baby roleplay. Do you act on this fetish exclusively with your partner(s)'s consent? Then end of discussion, you're cool. If you feel uncomfortable with your fetish for some reason, totally, I encourage you to talk to a therapist or something (as long as you make sure they are sex positive first!). But it doesn't matter to me whether you are into this because you were traumatized as a child or just because you happen to think adult babies are sexy. As long as you are not hurting anyone, you are still aloud to do it. Wearing make-up: do you do it because you are oppressed or because you think it's pretty? I don't care. Really, it's fine either way. I absolutely encourage you to examine your motivations if you will find it fulfilling, but you have no obligation. I mean, why do we analyze our motivations for certain things and not others? There is a thing called culture and sometimes we accept aspects of it without questioning them that strongly. I could go on forever.
5. agree, obvi
6. agree, and I wish the MensRights subreddit would believe that most feminists feel this way
7. I guess I agree. Although I am always hesitant to deny someone a title that they identify with.
8. agree
9. agree
10. This would probably be the one I'm least certain of. I wouldn't say I disagree, but I hesitate to say that I agree whole-heartedly.
11. agree, and I could write about victim blaming, but I won't.
12. see #7
13. agree, #6
14. Agree, and I think this is the arguably most important point. Similar to #4, but more important. I tend to associate this with anthropology, where we learned that it is important to understand a culture the way its people understand it, not to come into it with preconcieved notions and all. I don't think it's really that relevant. I'm sleepy.
15. okay |

guyz, I hate the way architects write
like srsly ALL of them. Okay, I haven't read that much, really. But legit, *all* of what I have read, which the possible exception of hertberger and safdie, they all sound like dicks. Okay, so hertzberger and safdie are decidedly more recent that the rest, perhaps I just need someone whose culture is more relevant to mine.
But no legit, they are all dumb.
Like, we get into 19th century, and buildings start looking a lot better to me. I like the language, I find the arrangement of spaces to be interesting and logical. Then we get to 20th century and it's amazing. I luvvvv modern shit. I can not get enough of concrete. However, the writing still sucks! They have these awesome ideas, but their reasoning is no better!
Architects, y u no realize that AESTHETIC PREFERENCE IS SUBJECTIVE? Okay, some people seem to recognize that it is cultural, at least. But I just hear so much of "this is natural, this is right". Metaphors and shit. It's only natural that we appreciate x aspect of style, because it is similar to x aspect of reality. DUMB. No, that is not why! And it doesn't matter why! We find some things beautiful, because we adopt the attitude that is it beautiful. EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL. Legit, everything is beautiful if you allow it to be. The most unintentional spaces can be the most beautiful things in the world. Rust is fucking beautiful, okay? I hate architects talking about BEAUTY. OMG, don't even worry about it. Some people will find it beautiful, others won't. If you want your building to be popular, if you want lots of people to think it is beautiful, okay, then sure, think about what it is that kids are into these days, but realize that it is not beauty. It is style. It is *a* style. One style that happens to be popular. Don't make arguments about whether ornament is inherently beautiful.
Don't say shit like, "We may find, in place of the genuine thing we have striven for, an affectation of the naive, which we should detest as we detest a full-grown woman with baby mannerisms." WOMEN WITH BABY MANNERISMS. WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ARCHITECTURE?
And what if I like women with baby mannerisms? Whatever that means. Women who do baby-talk to babies? That's cute. What about people who are into age play? They are probably not repulsed by an affectation of the naive.
Some day I will write some serious shit about this. I will write my fuckin thesis on it. IDK |

I really like SMBC, but this comic makes me pretty uncomfortable. That is all. |
